Still Life

Working with still life is a multi-dimensional discipline. The fruit have an inherent lusciousness and sensuality that makes them universally appealing. Tension is added to the composition by the predominantly round shapes within the square format of the canvas. The shapes and shadows add another element to the perspective. Different perspectives within a composition challenges a viewers perception.

Diptychs

These compositions combine abstract elements and imagery. The choice of images lie within personal as well as aesthetic concerns that are defined by my Latin/American cultural backgrounds. In addition, the compositions are broken between two canvases. The viewer must connect the pieces visually and metaphorically.

Collage/Paintings

The painting surface is a flat 2 dimensional object that we manipulate to create the illusion of perspective (3 dimensions). By incorporating collage directly onto the painted surface the fantasy is further pursued. The image extends itself off the surface and now shares space with the viewer.
